Privacy Policy
DistillPrompt
Effective date: 16 June 2026. DistillPrompt is a macOS app published by Thea Tech Solutions (“we”, “us”). This policy explains exactly what the app does and does not do with your data. The short version: your prompts and keys stay on your Mac, and we collect nothing about you by default.
Summary
- No account, no sign-in, and no personal data required to use the app.
- Your prompt drafts, results, and history are stored only on your Mac.
- By default, prompts are processed on-device by Apple Foundation Models and never leave your computer.
- Telemetry is OFF by default. We collect no analytics and no usage data.
- If you opt in to a cloud model, your prompt is sent only to that provider — never to us.
Data we collect
None by default. DistillPrompt has no analytics SDK running, no advertising identifiers, and no server that receives your content. We do not collect your name, email, location, contacts, or device identifiers.
Data processed on your device
Everything you type — prompt drafts, enhanced results, clarification answers, variations, and your saved history — is processed and stored locally on your Mac. History is kept in the app's local container and can be cleared at any time from Settings. Uninstalling the app removes this data.
On-device AI (default)
Out of the box, DistillPrompt uses Apple's on-device Foundation Models. When this backend is active, your prompts are processed entirely on your Mac and are never transmitted off the device.
Optional cloud model providers
You may optionally choose a third-party model provider — Anthropic, OpenAI, OpenRouter, Groq, Ollama, or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint. If you do, the prompt text you enhance is sent directly from your Mac to that provider so it can return a result. It is sent only to the provider you selected, and never to Thea Tech Solutions. Your use of a provider is governed by that provider's own privacy policy and terms. We are not a party to that exchange and never see its contents.
API key storage
If you use a cloud provider, your API key is stored locally on your Mac in an encrypted file (AES-GCM, with a device-derived key) inside the app's private container, with file permissions restricted to your user account. Keys are never sent to our servers and are never used for any purpose other than authenticating your own requests to the provider you chose. For maximum security you may instead supply keys through environment variables, in which case the app does not store them at all. We do not use the macOS Keychain.
Crash reporting (opt-in, off by default)
DistillPrompt can optionally send anonymous crash and error diagnostics to help us fix bugs. This is disabled by default and only runs if you explicitly turn it on in Settings. When enabled, the diagnostics contain technical error information only — never your prompts, results, API keys, or any personal data, and personally identifying information is not attached. You can turn it back off at any time.
Data sharing and selling
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data. We have no advertising partners and run no third-party trackers. The only outbound transmission the app ever makes with your content is the request you initiate to a cloud model provider you have selected.
Software updates
How the app updates depends on where you installed it from. The version downloaded directly from this site checks for updates using Sparkle: those checks are manual or user-initiated and contact our release server only to retrieve a signed update feed. The Mac App Store version does not include Sparkle at all and is updated by the App Store itself. Neither method transmits your prompts, keys, or personal data.
Children's privacy
DistillPrompt is a developer tool intended for general audiences and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any data from children.
Your rights and control
Because your data lives on your own Mac, you remain in full control of it. You can clear your prompt history from Settings, remove stored keys, disable crash reporting, and delete all app data by uninstalling the app. We hold no server-side copy to request, export, or erase.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a revised effective date. Continued use of the app after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
